Gold is wealth, which is very valuable and have trust on, that is what makes it acceptable.
From 2009 when Bitcoin was launched, it's still as new as it was launched today, because of it value to the society. Although the Price is volatile, but is preferable. that's why it' only exists disitally, this made people to trust and partner without fear, transactions can be made in an twinkle of an eye, to any place around the world. Gold as well is generally accepted globally.

So Arbitrum just froze ~$71M worth of ETH in response to a hack.

On the surface, I get it, nobody likes hackers walking away with stolen funds. But this raises a much bigger issue that people here shouldn’t ignore.

Zoom out for a second. Crypto didn’t emerge in a vacuum. Bitcoin was born right after the 2008 financial crisis, when banks took reckless risks, blew up the system, and then got bailed out while ordinary people paid the price. The entire ethos was to build a system where no centralized authority could step in, rewrite the rules, or selectively intervene.

“Trust the code, not institutions.”

That was the point.

Now fast forward to today. If a blockchain (or the entities controlling it) has the ability to freeze funds, then we’ve quietly reintroduced the exact kind of discretionary power crypto was meant to remove.

Today it’s:
“we froze funds from a hacker”

Tomorrow it could be:
“we froze funds because a government agency requested it”
“we froze funds due to regulatory pressure”
“we froze funds tied to an address flagged by some opaque process”

That’s not censorship resistance. That’s conditional permission.

This isn’t just an Arbitrum issue, it’s a broader problem across many Ethereum L2s. When you dig into how a lot of these systems are actually run, you often find multisigs, upgrade keys, or centralized sequencers that can intervene in “exceptional circumstances.”

But “exceptional” is doing a lot of work there.

If a small group can pause the system or freeze funds, then functionally:

• You are trusting them not to abuse that power
• You are trusting them to resist external pressure
• You are trusting governance structures you don’t control

That starts to look a lot like the same trust model that failed in 2008.. just wrapped in new technology.

This isn’t about defending hackers. It’s about consistency of principles.

Either:

1. Transactions are immutable and unstoppable or
2. Someone, somewhere, has a kill switch

And if that switch exists, history suggests it won’t stay limited to edge cases.

So what are we actually building here?

• A permissionless system resistant to bailouts, censorship, and intervention? or
• A faster, more efficient version of the same system that collapsed in 2008?

L2's need to die, this industry needs a cleansing because we have lost our way big time. We have forgotten why we're here in the first place, these L2's are simply ways for VC's and developers to extract from retail. They have become the bank.

I'm writing this simply because I'm happy that I didn't lose my money at least not this time, I think a lot of people know that feeling of euphoria

Had a chunk of savings sitting on Bybit when the news hit last February, not life-ruining money but enough that I was refreshing Twitter at 3am trying to figure out if I was about to become another statistic. Spent about 48 hours in that weird numb state you get when something big might be happening and you can't do anything about it.

My first instinct was pull everything immediately, so I logged in expecting either a frozen withdrawal screen or that classic temporarily under maintenance banner or smthng like that. Withdrawals worked I moved a small amount out as a test, it hit my wallet in the usual time and I remember sitting there kind of confused because that wasn't how any of this was supposed to go based on every crypto horror story I'd read.

Then the CEO went live, not a press release, not a tweet thread, a literal stream where he's laying out what happened and what they're doing about it. I stayed up watching because what else was I gonna do. He said user funds were covered, withdrawals would stay open and gave actual numbers on the backing. I'll be real, I didn't fully believe it in the moment. Too many "your funds are safu" moments in this industry that aged badly.

But over the next few days everything he said held up. The proof of reserves got updated. The post-mortem came out with real technical detail, not marketing fluff. Nobody lost money. The platform kept running through the whole thing which still genuinely surprises me looking back.

A year later my takeaway isn't Bybit is great. It's more like now I know what a decent response to a disaster actually looks like cause I lived through it and that's a rarer thing than it should be in this space.

But next time, I’ll also be in a hurry to transfer the funds I don’t think it can go like this every time

Tempo announced the integration of ”stablecoin-powered payment infrastructure” with DoorDash, Stripe, Paradigm, Coastal Bank and ARQ.

DoorDash plans to offer its users, “dashers” and merchants the option to use stablecoins in their transactions with the food delivery app, according to the Tempo blockchain.

In a Tuesday notice, Tempo said that together with DoorDash, it was “building stablecoin-powered payment infrastructure” in a move for its delivery drivers, also known as “dashers,” merchants, and users to settle transactions using digital currency. The blockchain cited payout speed, lower cross-border cost and transaction flexibility in its reasons for the integration, expected to apply to users in more than 40 countries. 

“If we can get merchants and Dashers their money faster, and do that in a way that's affordable for them, that's a no-brainer for the entire ecosystem,” said DoorDash co-founder Andy Wang.

Circle’s Jeremy Allaire gave an interview this week where he described a yuan-backed stablecoin as a “tremendous opportunity” and said currency competition is now basically a technology competition.

Whichever country can make their money the most frictionless to use globally wins.

Which is a fascinating thing to say out loud in Hong Kong in April 2026 when you run the company that issues the dollar stablecoin and you’re essentially describing the competitive threat to your own product.

The total stablecoin market is already worth 315 billion dollars with dollar-pegged tokens making up the bulk of it, so the dollar is winning the current round. But Allaire is basically telling you the next round is already being planned.

The actual obstacle is not technology. It is that a true yuan stablecoin would require Beijing to make the currency fully convertible.

That means China’s decision will hinge more on capital-control policy than on technology.

China has spent forty years building capital controls specifically to prevent money from leaving freely, and a yuan stablecoin is kind of the opposite of that. So the timeline is really a political question, not a technical one. But here is what is interesting and what nobody seems to be saying clearly: if the next decade is a dollar versus yuan stablecoin competition playing out on public blockchains, the thing that actually matters is not which stablecoin wins.

It is which payment infrastructure routes both of them. The rails underneath the stablecoin war are worth more than the stablecoins themselves, and right now nobody has really built neutral, chain-agnostic routing infrastructure that does not pick a side. That is the actual gap in this market, and it is enormous.

If you bought BTC early enough that selling could mean a hefty tax bill and right now, selling also means locking in a 40% drawdown from ATH (at the time of writing this) you already know the appeal of borrowing against it instead.

The question most holders don't fully think through is where that collateral actually lives and who they're trusting with it.

The question is: Where do you take a Bitcoin collateralized loan safely?

There are three options: DeFi, CeFi, and a private bank. Most people in crypto know the first two exist and never hear about the third. It doesn't advertise, it doesn't have a landing page with a rate calculator, and you can't sign up through an app. That's not an accident.

What happened on Saturday?

An attacker minted 116,500 rsETH from thin air. Deposited on Aave. Borrows $196M of real ETH. Walks away. Aave's smart contracts worked perfectly the entire time.

That's the 30-second version of what happened on Saturday. Aave is now carrying an estimated $177–200M in bad debt, the WETH pool hit 100% utilization, $5.4B in deposits tried to exit, and AAVE is down 17% for the week.

Aave didn't get hacked. Aave got fed poison and ate it exactly the way it was designed to.

Aave / Compound (DeFi)

First thing worth saying: there is no real BTC on Aave or Compound Finance. As I’m sure you know, Bitcoin doesn't run on Ethereum. What you're actually posting as collateral is WBTC or cbBTC: IOUs issued by a centralized custodian who claims to hold 1 BTC in reserve for every token minted. WBTC's reserves sit with BitGo (and after the 2024 Justin Sun / BiT Global restructure, the custody arrangement is more complicated than most users realize). cbBTC is an IOU from Coinbase.

So before you even get to the smart contract, you're trusting a second institution you didn't sign up for: the wrapper issuer. If BitGo mis-manages reserves, if Coinbase freezes redemptions, if the wrapper depegs for any reason, your "BTC collateral" on Aave is suddenly worth whatever the market decides an unbacked IOU is worth. Which, as rsETH holders discovered on Saturday, can be a lot less very quickly.

Then on top of that you have Aave itself. Your wrapped-BTC-IOU sits in a smart contract. The contract is the custodian. Rates are variable and utilization-driven they can spike past 20% during exactly the kind of stress event you'd want to borrow through. LTVs are generous (70–80%) because the protocol can liquidate you in seconds.

If you're "borrowing against your Bitcoin" on Aave, you're not. You're borrowing against an IOU for your Bitcoin, posted inside a contract you don't control, priced by an oracle you don't audit, pooled with collateral you didn't choose.

Nexo (CeFi)

Your BTC sits in Nexo's omnibus accounts. You are, functionally, an unsecured creditor of Nexo. Rates run from 2.9% APR (Platinum tier, requires holding 10%+ of your portfolio in NEXO token, low LTV) up to 18.9% at base tier. LTV up to 50% on BTC.

What you're trusting: Nexo is solvent, their loan book is healthy, their internal risk management holds. They don't publish granular loan-book data or real-time attestations.

That last sentence should trigger flashbacks. The CeFi crypto lending track record from the last cycle is one of the worst in modern financial history:

• Celsius - $4.7B FTC settlement, founder Alex Mashinsky convicted of fraud in 2024, sentenced to 12 years. Retail depositors lost billions.
• BlockFi - bankrupt, $100M SEC penalty, lending product shut down, customers spent years in bankruptcy proceedings to recover fractions of their deposits.
• Genesis - bankrupt, parent company DCG still in active civil fraud litigation with the NYAG. Barry Silbert's name is in court filings, not headlines about industry leadership.
• Voyager - bankrupt, customers locked out for over a year, partial recovery only.
• Gemini Earn - frozen alongside Genesis's collapse, $1.1B in customer funds locked, settled for $1.1B with the NYAG.

Nexo itself paid $45M to settle SEC and state charges in 2023 and withdrew its Earn product from the US. They've survived. That's different from being safe.

The pattern across every one of these failures was identical: customers thought they were "earning yield on their Bitcoin" or "borrowing against their crypto." What they actually had was an unsecured IOU from a lightly-regulated firm that was rehypothecating their collateral behind the scenes. When the music stopped, they were creditors in a bankruptcy proceeding, not Bitcoin holders.

If the phrase "unsecured creditor of a centralized crypto lender" isn't triggering pattern recognition yet, re-read the list above.

Swiss private bank Bitcoin backed Lombard Loans

The BTC held in custody at the bank itself. Not a third-party custodian, not an SPV wrapper, not a pooled omnibus at a crypto-native sub-custodian. The same balance sheet lending you fiat is holding your BTC. The bank I'm referencing is FINMA-regulated and has been in business since the early 1930s.

You don't need to be Swiss or a Swiss resident. Private banks in Switzerland onboard international clients as their primary business. Residency is irrelevant (excluding sanctioned jurisdictions of course).

You can borrow in CHF, USD, or EUR. CHF is the cheapest, the Swiss National Bank policy rate is currently 0%, so CHF base rates sit well below USD and EUR.

Terms on their Bitcoin-backed Lombard Loans:

• LTV: 6-20% on BTC.
• Interest Rate on the loan: Base interest rate of the currency with a maximum margin of 8%.
• Custody: segregated, visible on-chain and in your bank account, on the bank's books, protected under Swiss banking law.
• Liquidation: human process. Margin call first, conversation second, forced sale as last resort. No liquidation bot, no oracle, no "sorry the gas spiked and we couldn't reach you."

Why the pricing looks like this?

A well-funded borrower on Aave at 50% LTV in calm markets pays less than 10%. The question is what you're buying with the extra fees and lower TVL.

On Aave: protocol risk, oracle risk, collateral-asset contagion risk, and as this weekend demonstrated the risk that when something goes wrong, utilization locks and you can't exit.

On Nexo: counterparty risk to a centralized lender with limited disclosure, plus concentration in their own token to get the advertised rate.

At a Swiss private bank: you're paying a margin for a regulated custodian with a 90+ year balance sheet, a facility sized for wealth preservation rather than capital efficiency, and a custody setup where the institution holding your BTC is the institution lending against it.

Who this is actually for?

Not most people in this sub. Minimums are high: 7-figures+ in assets is where this conversation starts. Onboarding is the hard part, not the credit line itself. Source of Wealth, Source of Funds, and blockchain forensics on anything with DeFi history, mining history, or pre-2017 activity are where most crypto holders get rejected when they walk into or reach out to a Swiss private bank on their own. These relationships are built through introductions. You don't apply directly to these banks. Someone vouches for you.

If you're borrowing $20k to cover a short-term expense, Aave and Nexo are fine. If you're an early holder sitting on eight or nine figures of BTC the private bank Lombard loan is a structurally different product with a lot less risk.

I was eyeballing mid 50s on btc for the retracement and $1400ish for eth. I've been in the space for 10 years plus and even though there's institutional money now I still see the cycle following roughly the same timeline. I think currently the geo political climate is propping up the price of cryptos across the board a bit but if/when everything settles down with Iran and the BS domestically we will see a huge drop in price. I'm currently holding short positions on both and am up a few money but not as much as I expected. Still a form believer in the cycle but not sure where it will bottom out. What are your thoughts?

Elon Musk helped write the law governing his own payment app, dismantled the regulator that would police it, and is now launching a stablecoin. Senator Warren has some questions.

So X Money is apparently launching this month and Elizabeth Warren sent a letter to Elon Musk this week that reads like someone who has been watching a very slow motion car crash and finally decided to write it down.

The key details are genuinely remarkable when you put them in the same sentence. Musk was a senior adviser to the president while the GENIUS Act was being written.

The GENIUS Act contains a specific carveout allowing private companies like X to issue stablecoins without the guardrails that apply to similarly situated public companies. The CFPB, which would normally have jurisdiction over a payments product like X Money, was effectively dismantled by Musk working with the acting director Vought ( Isn’t that the name of the company from The Boys??) around the same time.

X Money is now launching with a potential stablecoin, a rumored 6% APY on deposits, no FDIC insurance, and a banking partner that has had enforcement actions from the FDIC twice in the last eight years.

Warren wants answers by today.

The thing that’s actually interesting about this beyond the obvious conflict of interest stuff is that the entire problem Warren is describing is a problem of who controls the rules. When one person can simultaneously shape the legislation, remove the enforcement mechanism, and then launch the product the legislation was supposed to govern, you have a system where the rules exist entirely at the discretion of the entity being regulated.

Which is a solved problem architecturally. Like it’s genuinely funny that we keep building payment infrastructure this way when the technology to make the protocol enforce the rules instead of the company exists and works. If only there was a way to do that. Wild that nobody has thought of it/s

While the initial deadline was interpreted with a slight extension to secure more negotiation time, the tension remains at an all-time high regarding the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The situation is becoming increasingly complex with conflicting reports regarding Vice President Vance’s movements and the "strategic ambiguity" being employed by the U.S. administration to gain leverage. While the U.S. has hinted at potential reconstruction support for Iran upon reaching an agreement, Iran maintains a firm stance that no negotiations will take place under direct military threat.

So the Kelp DAO situation is genuinely one of the more clarifying moments crypto has had in a while and not in a good way.

The short version is that an attacker tricked a bridge into thinking a legitimate cross-chain instruction had arrived, drained 116,500 rsETH, immediately deposited it into Aave as collateral, borrowed $196 million in real ETH against it, and walked away while Aave’s liquidity pool hit 100% utilization meaning people who had deposited actual ETH couldn’t withdraw it.

Total DeFi TVL dropped $13 billion in two days. LayerZero and Kelp are now in a public fight about whose fault it was, which is a completely normal thing for the two parties involved in a $292 million state-sponsored heist to be doing.

The part that should bother people more than the number is what the attack actually required.

Kelp’s bridge had a 1-of-1 verifier configuration meaning exactly one entity had to sign off on any cross-chain message for the bridge to act on it. One. There was no second check. No redundancy. North Korea found the one thing that had to go wrong and made it go wrong and now $13 billion in DeFi TVL is gone and Aave has $196 million in bad debt sitting on its books from collateral that was never real.

The thesis that DeFi is trustless has always quietly depended on the infrastructure underneath it actually being trustworthy and Lazarus Group just finished reading the fine print.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

This release is a large wallet capability update, and the result of about 2 calendar years of work by a number of developers, both volunteers and with bounties supported by donations, to allow Verus Mobile to support the Verus DREAM (Decentralised, Rights-preserving Encryption Application Model). The biggest changes are a rework of Z-transaction support, refactoring and upgrading it on the back-end and adding shielded transaction support for Android, the new compact, much more capable DREAM deeplink, QR code, and NFC format, and support for identity update, and data encryption requests. Updated Z-address support As part of the complete rework/upgrade of z-transaction/encryption/decryption support, Android now supports shielded Verus addresses and private Z transactions through the native lightwallet stack. This brings Android to feature parity with iOS for private wallet operations. What this means in practice:

* All users can now set up a Z seed from Settings > Profile. If your current wallet seed is a valid 24-word mnemonic, the app can offer to reuse it as the Z seed. You can also import an existing 24-word Z seed or an extended spending key.

* All wallets can now derive Sapling/Z addresses, track shielded balances, show shielded sync progress, and list private transactions.

* Z memos are supported when sending to private/Z recipients. The memo field appears in the send form when the destination is a private address.

* The app blocks sending while a shielded wallet is still syncing, because private balance data is only reliable after sync completes. First sync can take a while.

* Private funds need confirmations before they are spendable. The UI now explains this when a private balance is pending or not yet spendable.

1. New GenericRequest deeplinks The app now supports the new compact GenericRequest deeplink format. These are the new verus:// links, such as: verus://1/<compact request payload> The GenericRequest is a unified request envelope. Instead of every feature inventing its own QR/deeplink format, apps can package one or more request details into a single signed request. Verus Mobile can parse the envelope, verify who signed it, validate each request detail, show the correct UI, build a response, sign that response, and return it to the requesting app or service. This is a newly defined, extendable protocol that enabled the development of Verus DREAM applications by creating a package for any type of wallet request (present or future), including identity updates, app encryption requests, user data requests, login requests, VerusPay invoices, or even a combination of multiple different request types at once. Supported request details in this release include:

* VerusPay v4 invoice details, adding support for private addresses to VerusPay, and greatly reducing the size of a VerusPay request to allow for easier-read QR codes or more data

* AuthenticationRequest, the new compact login/authentication request, also greatly reduced in size, with added support for encrypted responses

* IdentityUpdateRequest, a new request type that allows for deep links or QR codes to prompt the user to add encrypted data to their ID, or update their VerusID details

* AppEncryptionRequest, a new request type that allows for the creation of an zero knowledge encrypted channel between an app and the user's wallet

* DataPacketRequest and UserDataRequest primitives exist in the libraries and are upcoming, but are not fully exposed in the app UI yet

1. Important behavior:

* Legacy x-callback-url VerusPay and login deeplinks are still supported.

* New verus:// links are shorter and more flexible.

* Experimental request types, including identity update and app encryption, are controlled by the "Enable experimental deeplinks" setting.

1. This release turns Verus Mobile into a general request handler for Verus identity, payments, encryption, and future app-to-wallet workflows. IdentityUpdateRequest support GenericRequest can now carry identity update requests. Verus Mobile validates the request, loads the target identity, compares the proposed update against the current identity, and presents a guided review flow. The identity update UI is split into clearer steps:

* Review who requested the update and which identity would be changed.

* See a summary of content changes and high-risk changes.

* Inspect identity content changes in a dedicated content step.

* Review authority, recovery, revocation, and other sensitive changes separately.

The plaintext credential data is not sent to the RPC server. This requires the user's Z seed to match the private address on the identity. AppEncryptionRequest support This release adds the first mobile flow for AppEncryptionRequest inside GenericRequest. An AppEncryptionRequest lets another app ask Verus Mobile to derive Verus encryption key material from the user's identity and Z seed, after user approval. The wallet can return viewing-key/address information, and optionally an extended spending key if the request asks for it and the user approves. The app shows:

* The requesting identity

* The signing system

* Signature time when available

* Derivation number

* Derivation identity or request identity when present

* Whether an encrypted response address is requested

* Whether the request asks for secret key material

1. Responses are added to the GenericResponse and then signed by the user's selected identity. If the request includes an encryption response address, the response detail can be encrypted into a DataDescriptor before it is returned. This feature depends on the user's Z seed because the derivation uses Sapling key material. If no Z seed is configured, the app explains that setup is required. Deeplink reliability and UI polish There are also a number of smaller fixes and UI changes in this release:

* Fixed an iOS issue where deeplinks could fail to trigger if the app was already open.

* Reworked VerusPay information pages.

* Reworked login/authentication request pages.

* Added clearer request signer cards, chain labels, timestamps, and technical detail sections.

* Added UI for opening compatible requests in another installed Verus handler app.

* Added settings for experimental GenericRequest request types.

* Improved Z-wallet sync messaging and send blocking while shielded data is still syncing.

For developers and services If you are building an app or service that talks to Verus Mobile, GenericRequest is the new preferred format. Use verus://1/<payload> for the new compact request deeplinks. The request can include one or more detail objects, response URIs, signer metadata, a preferred handler, and a signed envelope. Verus Mobile will validate the envelope and route each supported detail to the right user flow. The verusid-ts-client library supports the creation of these requests and older request styles are marked as deprecated. Legacy VerusPay and legacy login consent deeplinks still work, but the new GenericRequest format is where new functionality will land. This release is an important step toward the realization of the Verus DREAM, enabling the creation of decentralized applications that preserve user rights, scale to the world, and aren't subject to value extraction. I (20M) am a computer science student. And I want to get into crypto because it's so interesting and also because of it's potential to turn into a profitable side hustle. I took a blockchain course in uni so I know how it works technically but what I want guidance on is the actual practical things I need to know to get started in the crypto market and maybe make it profitable one day. Also do you think it's a good or bad idea to even try making profit from crypto? Some people say it's just gambling with extra steps so is that true? Will I be better off just learning about normal stocks? Thank you!

My bare metal server where I stored some of my private keys was compromised somehow last night, and I got about a 100k€ siphoned. Weirdly enough it happened right after an agent helped scanning my repos for possibly exposed private keys in bundles…

Anyway.

I saw everything on chain, and have all the addresses and transaction IDs that were at play during the attack. What’s the best course of action to get this 1% chance to get my money back?

I’m in France by the way if that helps. I’m willing to pay somebody that has a track record of recovering funds from this kind of hack.

I've been in crypto long enough to remember when anonymity was a big part of the appeal. It was all about privacy, decentralized finance, and escaping traditional systems. But now, it feels like that part of the vision is fading away. We have KYC requirements on almost every platform, transactions that are more traceable than ever, and a constant push towards regulation.

What happened to the "anonymous" part of crypto? Are there any real "safe havens" left for private use, or has the ship sailed? Feels like the dream of privacy is slowly being sold off for mainstream adoption.

I’m currently holding a few bags from much higher entries and I’m looking for some honest perspective on whether these projects still have a future or if I should just rotate into newer narratives.

I’m seriously considering relocating if it means I can get full access to Binance perps again. It’s surprisingly hard to find clear, up-to-date info on which countries actually allow unrestricted futures access, and whether that access is stable long term or can be revoked. From what I can tell, it’s more about jurisdiction than skill or account size. Has anyone here actually done this successfully and, if so, where did you relocate to? I’m currently trading on Bitget and it’s decent, but the liquidity, depth and execution just don’t compare to Binance, especially for tighter, system-based entries.

Anyone got any experience with blockbar NFTs?

First of all I’m a total newb when it comes to NFT and crypto etc so please bear with me.

In 2022 I was gifted a blockbar NFT of a special edition whiskey, through my job. I have no interest in whiskey but I thought it was a kind gesture none the less.

At the time I logged into blockbar and jumped through the hoops to claim it… so it’s definitely mine. But as far as I’m aware… they hold it or something?!

I then totally forgot about it.

Until this week.

I’ve logged back in and seen that the same as my one sold for a few hundred dollars in the last couple of years.

So my questions are, is it worth holding onto? should I sell the NFT? If so… is that going to be complicated? Am I going to need to get a crypto wallet or something? Or should I claim my limited edition bottle of whiskey instead? (I think they destroy the NFT once you claim the bottle). If I do claim the bottle will there be any issues with import taxes etc as I’m in the UK? and then how do I sell the whisky Itself.

Its been almost a year past and I was part of the shitty end of the rug pull HEMI Started with 1000 dollars and ended with 18 bucks. Worse than that Luna crash, Now watching RAVE in the news last week brought back memories of all the hype the growing wave then over night in the darkness of sleep so many people lost a few hundred to thousands as 3 wallets skipping away with everyones money. True ponzi scamming feels like. If you are a creator you should be locked for years on how much you pull out and run away with. Should be some rules right? Would think you would see this happening all the time but you don't just try crooks. What you all think?

MetaMask advertises 0.875% fee but in reality it's more like 3-4%. I bridged ETH to Base on a 5-figure swap and lost 3% for no reason. No warning, no breakdown, just less money in my wallet.

I checked the transaction on Etherscan. The quote showed one amount, the execution took another. That's not slippage that's theft.

Stablecoins are the sweetest, most lucrative business in all of crypto. No surprise the Clarity Act got stuck in Congress—it all came down to stablecoins.

Tether pulls in $12 billion in revenue and pockets $10 billion in profit every year. It's now among the top 18 holders of US government debt—country‑level. And the company already has its own person inside the White House. Yet out in the real market, corporations are increasingly choosing USDC. According to analysts at the crypto gateway Cryptomus, USDC transaction volume hit $2.55 trillion in Q1 2026, while USDT only managed $1.49 trillion. Circle's token now holds over 80% of regulated B2B settlements.

Sure, Tether's market cap is still more than double Circle's, but the corporate sector's potential is enormous. And USDC has already carved out a spot in the payment systems of nearly every public fintech giant—Stripe, Visa, Worldpay, you name it.

That's why the Drift protocol hack was a real April Fools' gift for Tether. The largest DEX on Solana got drained of $230 million—and North Korean hackers quietly walked away with it, all through USDC. Hey folks — I played with staking for first time and not sure I got it right

I staked some ETH through Ledger Live, then unstaked about 11 days ago. The tx shows “success” on Etherscan, but since then:

- no ETH back in my wallet
- no lcETH or any token showing up
- Ledger Live just shows the original tx, nothing else
- Etherscan doesn’t show any incoming ETH either

I thought this stuff usually wraps up in a few days, but it’s been nearly 2 weeks now and I’ve got nothing to show for it.

Is this still normal?

This is a wild one. I was in the middle of a live high-leverage futures analysis session with Gemini Pro on AAVE when something unprecedented happened in real time.

The Setup

AAVE had just printed a violent, unexpected 7–9% red candle. Nothing in the news, reddit or elsewhere. No obvious catalyst. I was suspicious (I've been trading crypto over a decade) and with time you notice when something is not right. This was already an hour past the initial spike and still no real info, so I decided to try to ask AI to look into this, let the google mastermind search thru every online source right? It gave me a very bullish summary and that this is just normal market movement more or less. But after I saw it talk about wrong entry price points, I sent a screenshot and suspected it's not tracking real time data. Still, gemini sticked to his guns that there's nothing fishy going on, even with me questioning every single thing it literally said this:

The "Insider Info" Suspicion. I just scanned the latest crypto news and governance boards, and there are absolutely zero indications of an exploit, hack, or insider dump.

So I decided to trust it and was debating futures entry points and strategy. Discussing stop-hunt mechanics, breakouts, margin efficiency, the whole thing. This was actually the first time I was using AI seriously to discuss futures trading, it was kind of fun.

The Plot Twist

Mid-conversation, Gemini suddenly goes into "EMERGENCY CORRECTION" mode and tells me to stop everything. It claims it just scanned live feeds and found breaking news of a $280M KelpDAO exploit - attacker minted rsETH, used it as collateral on Aave V3 to drain ETH/WETH, leaving ~$177M in bad debt. It cited ZachXBT as the source and said this explains the violent drop perfectly.

My gut reaction: this is insane and suspicious. It's been almost 2 hours since the initial red candle too. I checked ZachXBT's Twitter. Nothing. I Googled "aave news" "aave hack" I sorted by latest. Nothing on any outlet. I asked Gemini to give me sources and it gave me a write up, but no real links- It gave me them in just text, ones that I couldn't verify. On top of that, the only actual source that shows under a given chat was just my screenshot of current market data on mexc that I sent it few messages earlier. I had to question it again.

The "Hallucination" Apology

Gemini folded immediately. Full apology. Called itself out for a "massive AI hallucination." Said it fabricated the entire KelpDAO hack, the $280M figure, the bad debt exposure, all of it. It walked everything back and returned to the original bullish thesis. I was surprised and honestly a little shocked as I though AI is in a better state than this, especially the damn paid and most advanced model from google. But I thought it just has trouble live analyzing data, and that this is more interesting than anything, I did however begin to question if I can trust anything he wrote about trading suggestions and thought I might as well try out another AI like Claude which everyone is raving about.. and just after saying that..

The Reversal of the Reversal

Gemini reversed again. It said it had done one last hard scan and confirmed: the exploit was real. CoinGape and BeInCrypto had just published it. ZachXBT's alert was on Telegram, not Twitter, which is why I couldn't find it. The reason I couldn't verify it at the time (around 9PM GMT April 18) was that it was still breaking across crypto-native Telegram channels and hadn't hit mainstream indexing yet.

So the sequence was:

1. ❌ Gemini gets it wrong and says there's nothing out of the norm going on with AAVE, this is regular trading activity by market makers. It questions all of my suspicions about something going on and actually suggests the opposite how bullish AAVE is
2. ❌ I supply a screenshot with current live trading data just so it sees (it was talking about opening entry points that don't align) and I ask it again to rethink and search what's going on, it still re-iterates and even says there is zero info of any hack or anything of sorts
3. ✅ Suddenly during convo Gemini does live exploit news breaking in real time, literally mid convo (if you look at the "show thinking" in chat, you can see it catch it mid response)
4. ❌ I push back because sources aren't findable yet
5. ❌ Gemini retracts accurate information to avoid seeming like it's hallucinating
6. ✅ Gemini re-confirms it was right, explains the source lag and says the hallucination part was the only thing he messed up

Why This Matters for Crypto Traders

This isn't just an AI curiosity. Think about what almost happened here from a trading perspective:

• The AI had correct, actionable info about a live exploit before it was publicly indexed (major signal to use AI for trading)
• Its own safety guardrails made it self-censor real information because I pushed back and mainstream Google results were empty
• If I had trusted the retraction and gone long anyway, I would have risked jumping on a very unsure bet (major signal to not use AI for trading)

The AAVE drop that looked like a stop-hunt or whale manipulation? It was an actual exploit unfolding in real time. My instincts said "something is wrong here" from the very beginning of the chat. The AI confirmed it, then un-confirmed it, then re-confirmed it.

Always verify. Never act on a single source - including AI.

Has anyone else caught AI giving you accurate breaking crypto info before it hit mainstream outlets? Genuinely curious if this is a known phenomenon.

lot of people in crypto know Pepe, but fewer actually know the roots behind it.

The character comes from , who originally created Pepe in his 2005 comic Boy’s Club. Back then, it wasn’t about money, tokens, or speculation it was just an internet character that organically spread across forums and meme culture.

Fast forward to today, and Pepe has become one of the most recognized symbols in crypto, especially with meme coins. What’s interesting is how something that started as a piece of indie art evolved into a multi-billion dollar narrative across different market cycles.

There’s also an older piece from Furie sometimes referred to as “Peace Frog,” which reflects themes of conflict and the desire for peace created during a time of global wars.

Do projects tied to established internet culture have more longevity, or does success in this space come down purely to timing, liquidity, and attention?

Spend enough time in this space and you start to notice patterns. People jumping from one thing to the next, chasing moves, reacting to every shift. It’s almost like a shared mindset that spreads without anyone really noticing.

Call it what you want, but it feels a lot like a “virus.” Once you’re in it, you start thinking the same way as everyone else. Constantly checking charts. Looking for the next play. Feeling like you always have to be in something.

That’s what I’ve come to think of as the PumpMindVirus. Not a coin, not a shill, just a way to describe how quickly that mindset spreads in crypto.

Wouldn't it be far more prudent to use a small esp32 USB with a few given serial commands?

The challenge should include the site URL, UTC time, and a nonce. Facilitated by a browser extension to prevent URL spoofing.

There's no reason why sites should have to pay a fee to allow their own users to login. Or, for security keys having to rely on authentication servers.

Both techniques force both server operators and users into dependence upon external systems.

Let's say BTC goes to $10 million or whatever by a few decades from now. The power law theory would have it become a much lower vol instrument in dollar terms with far lower expected forward returns against the dollar. Would it not eventually hit a point where it has expected forward returns of something like [GDP growth + fiat debasement + natural deflation] over the long run? I don't know how this works out, but something in the high single digits, perhaps? This would result in low exponential growth, not a continuously diminishing power law.

If price goes up, institutions were right, get in. If price drops, institutions are accumulating more, get in. There's no market condition under which the conclusion changes.

it sounds like insider knowledge being generously shared. Someone letting you in on what the smart money is doing. That framing is almost always doing more work than the underlying data is.

Institutions accumulate → narrative gets loud and everyone starts screaming "the war is over! Institutions are buying! The four year cycle is broken!"→ retail piles in → institutions have someone to sell to -> the market bottoms in Q4 contrary to the narrative retail was bombarded with for over a year straight

TL;DR

90% of you don't know the actual difference between hard and soft forks. I wouldn't blame you since AI gets it wrong too when I ask.

The actual definition is surprisingly different than what most have heard. Hard forks are caused by loosening rules concerning which blocks are valid while soft fork are caused by restricting rules.

Soft forks can be just as "hard" and disruptive as hard forks but add additional complexity, technical debt, and bloat.

Despite popular opinion, soft forks can cause incompatibility because their backwards-compatibility is only 1-sided.

In a soft fork, old clients see new client structures as valid, but not necessarily the other way around. New clients can ignore old client blocks and tell them to fuck off. The "soft" part of the term is usually more of a technicality than an accurate description.

I just want to clarify many common misconceptions about soft forks.

Personally, I don't have any issues with BIP-361, but I think it's stupid that some idiots hate it because they mistakenly think it's a hard fork.

If you still want to hate it for some reason, hate it because it's a soft fork. Its Stage B rule change is incompatible with old clients, and that incompatibility is still valid as a soft fork.

Contrary to popular opinion, Bitcoin has had many hard-fork rule changes. Most of Bitcoin's hard fork rules changes went completely unnoticed over the years unless you were carefully following core devs updates.

There were at least 7 according to researcher JLopp. Except for the unintentional v0.80 one (that ironically was a buggy soft fork attempt), the hard fork ones didn't cause trouble or cause a chain/community split.

Soft forks are sometimes messier and bloated than hard forks

Imagine if software had to maintain backwards compatibility FOREVER:

• The Internet would be forced to support old insecure WEP routers
• Mario Odyssey would need to support running on every single version of Gameboy and Nintendo systems that existed, so they downgrade to 7 FPS and 16-bit color.
• Elden Ring would be forced to support Windows 3.11 and i386-era desktops, so it looks like Wolf 3D and loads across 250 floppy disks.
• Horses and wagons would still be allowed to use all roads and highways, creating dangerous traffic
• It would still be legal for doctors to practice bloodletting, mercury prescriptions, arsenic prescriptions, and drilling holes into skulls

Yeah, it would suck. At some point, new clients might choose to purposely start harming old clients to force them out of the system.

And that's how soft forks work. There would be so much technical bloat from needing to support so many old systems. And the software would crippled by low performance. Fortunately, hard forks are common in software development, and everyone benefits from modernizing and collectively upgrading to better versions.

There are a lot of misconceptions about soft and hard forks

• BOTH soft forks and hard forks can cause chain splits, but most don't.
• BOTH soft forks and hard forks can lead to incompatibility between old and new clients where new clients are completely intolerant of old client blocks.
• BOTH types can be small or big changes.
• BOTH types can be disruptive or permanent, but not necessarily.

There is so much overlap between the 2 types that difference is often more of a technicality.

Technical definition as per BIP-123:

• In a Hard Fork, structures that were invalid under the old rules become valid under the new rules. i.e. Rules become more loosened in a hard fork.
• In a Soft Fork, some structures that were valid under the old rules are no longer valid under the new rules. i.e. Rules become more restrictive in a soft fork.

Hard forks are generally fast, less complex, and don't lead to chain splits. Everyone coordinates to upgrade around the same time. Most modern blockchains operate this way, and long-lasting problems are extremely rare. Well-planned hard forks don't cause chain splits since the community chooses to upgrade together.

In contrast, soft forks can take forever to update. It took nearly a half decade for clients and exchanges to adopt Segwit and Taproot after they were released.

Why soft forks can be dangerous

They can cause reorgs and chain splits.

Not everyone is required to update. People running the old software can produce blocks that new clients choose to discard. So the new clients will ignore their blocks and reorg the chain. When this happens, the soft fork ultimately has a similar effect as a hard fork because the old clients can no longer produce blocks accepted by the new clients.

Example:

Imagine a soft fork update where old blocks containing P2PK transactions or ECDSA signatures are no longer valid under new rules. If 75% of miners supported the update while 25% didn't, the blocks produced by the 25% would be reorged by 75% of miners. There would be constant chain splits due to the soft fork.

So despite being a "soft" fork, there is still a "hard" cutoff because new clients can be intolerant of old clients.

Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily.

Both soft and hard forks can both have compatibility cutoffs. So stop stigmatizing hard forks for something that both types of forks can do (but that hard forks execute more cleanly).

Some claims are frustrating but ultimately verifiable with publicly available data or straightforward checks. Others, however, are framed in a way that sounds compelling or technically impressive yet are extremely difficult to assess without access to internal systems, proprietary metrics, or detailed operational transparency.

The combination of AI and crypto stands out in this regard; it is relatively easy to confirm surface-level indicators like on-chain activity or operator payouts, but far harder to determine whether the underlying compute is producing meaningful or valuable outcomes. I want to bridge some of my ADA to another network (probably EVM). I already tried using WAN Bridge and bridging USDT (apparently the only token you can bridge) to Ethereum. But all pairs like ADA/USDT have such a low liquidity that it's not worth it

I also searched for Kucoin and SwapSpace, but I'm not sure if I need KYC (which wouldn't be possible for me personally)

What's the best way to bridge? And to which network? I was thinking ETH, SOL, DOT... I don't care to which network I'm bridging, I just want to take out my Cardano tokens

The Ketman Project, funded by an Ethereum Foundation stipend, identified 100 North Korean IT workers and alerted about 53 projects employing DPRK operatives.

The Ethereum Foundation said it funded a six-month project that exposed 100 North Korean operatives who had infiltrated Web3 companies under fake identities.

The foundation on Thursday shared a recap of its ETH Rangers program, which was launched in late 2024 to provide "stipends for individuals doing public goods security work" within the ecosystem.

One of the recipients used the capital to build the Ketman Project to focus on investigating “fake developers” embedded within crypto, particularly operatives from North Korea.

I currently have 2 wallets, a ledger Nano S+ and a Trezor model one.

The Trezor I have BTC and ETH, the ledger I have BTC and ADA.

I am having some concerns about having my assets on ledger and I am seriously considering moving them to a different company.

I've thought about factory resetting my ledger, so that I have no vulnerabilities with the software and some unknown backdoor that could be implemented that extracts my seeds. Not sure if I'm being paranoid here, but it's something I want to be on top of.

I've also thought about getting a new cold wallet and transferring it to that OR simply restoring my seeds using a different company wallet while factory resetting my ledger.

Looking for recommendations on what makes the most sense and without overcomplicating the process.

I’ve been using MEXC as my primary platform for a while now, specifically to manage and pay for various contract services. It worked well for my workflow because of its low fees and accessibility, but I’ve recently hit a major roadblock regarding their updated compliance policies.

Even for very small transactions, specifically a recent attempt to send just $35 USDT via the Polygon network, the platform is now demanding full KYC verification before allowing any withdrawals. This is a significant shift from their previous policy where small-scale, unverified accounts had more flexibility.

Since I prioritize privacy and want to avoid the lengthy and often intrusive identity verification process for such minor amounts, I’m looking for reliable alternatives. Ideally, I need a platform or exchange that:

1. Supports the Polygon (MATIC) network for low-fee USDT/USDC transfers.
2. Allows for withdrawals without mandatory KYC for small daily volumes.
3. Has a decent reputation for security and liquidity.

I’ve looked into some DEXs, but I sometimes need the features of a basic exchange to manage the initial funds. Does anyone have recommendations for non-KYC exchanges that are still functional in 2026? Or perhaps a non-custodial service that bridges the gap for small contractor payments?

Hey, I received bitcoin dust on an address i last used in 2019, when moving funds to change from the hold format to the bc1 format. the address had 1 transaction sometimes in 2019 for this purpose and now i received a second one in april from this address: bc1qls0rn38632pterjj444sdnqmqp6cljc667l6us

Looking at block explorer it seems like this wallet is doing thousands of theses dust transactions. Now I imagine that it is some kind of tracking for future attack possibly? This address of mine hold what many would call a significant amount of btc. What can I do to mitigate any tracking or attack vector? Thanks.

I've been seeing way too many posts lately about people getting rugged on sketchy exchanges or losing funds on platforms that turned out to be unlicensed, so I figured I'd share what I actually look for before I trust an exchange with my money.

First thing I check is licensing. Like actual regulatory licenses, not just a "we're compliant" statement on their website. OKX (which I'll be using as an example bc I've used it a while now) is licensed in 40+ US states, registered as an MSB with FinCEN, and has MiCA pre-authorization in the EU. For me it matters because it means there's actual regulatory oversight and they can't disappear with your funds overnight.

Second thing is their security track record. Has the exchange ever been hacked? How do they store funds? OKX uses multi-sig cold storage and hasn't had a major security breach which is more than a lot of exchanges can say.

Third is proof of reserves. Any exchange that won't show you proof they actually hold your funds is a red flag imo. OKX publishes monthly proof of reserves audited by Hacken using zk-STARK proofs. They have reserve ratios above 100% for the assets I've looked at, which means they hold more than what users have deposited.

I know this sounds like a lot of research but it takes 15 minutes and could save you from losing everything. Don't just go with whatever exchange your favorite youtuber is shilling.

Honestly with all the massive macro swings lately and people getting absolutely liquidated on these geopolitical wicks... the debate between 'not your keys not your crypto' and 'on-chain is too much friction' is flaring up again.

I used to be torn between the two extremes tbh. leaving your entire stack on an exchange just sitting there is basically handing over root access to your prod server to a 3rd party. if a platform decides to freeze withdrawals or go into 'unexpected maintenance' during a volatility spike, your money is just gone

But the purist alternative is exhausting. trying to actively trade out of phantom or metamask across 5 different chains... bleeding money on bridge fees, dealing with failed signatures, and jumping through hoops just to get decent slippage. its just not practical for daily moves.

Finally realized that treating cold wallets and exchanges as enemies was stupid. they just serve different functions. i reorganized my stack into a 3-bucket split a few months ago and it definately cured my security anxiety while keeping fees down.

1. the vault (core holdings). this is the deep cold storage. btc and eth that i don't plan to touch for years. it sits on a ledger completely offline. i dont stake it, i dont wrap it, i pretend it doesn't exist. zero smart contract risk.

2. the workbench (working capital). this is my active trading stack for spot and perps. instead of fighting on-chain friction i keep this purely on a CEX. right now im just using a mid-tier non-KYC exchange for this middle layer. main reason is avoiding the random lockdown headaches or 'infinite maintenance' screens that giant platforms like coinbase or binance hit you with right when macro gets crazy and you need to move fast. i only keep exactly what i need for margin here and nothing more.

3. the casino (on-chain / memes). totally isolated budget. if i want to mess around with solana volume or chase some weird low-cap narrative, i fund a burner hot wallet from the workbench. if it goes to zero, fine. it never touches my core stack

you don't need to choose between total self-custody and total centralization. just stop mixing long-term wealth with daily trading margin. keep the core cold and trade the short-term hot. stop giving strangers root access to your entire net worth tbh.

Everyone’s celebrating the $1.1B inflow, but the hedge side makes the picture a bit more nuanced.

Yeah, capital is clearly coming back in BTC funds took the majority and ETFs absorbed a big chunk. That’s a shift from the previous weeks of outflows, no question.

Most people think of Tether as the company behind USDT. While that's technically true, it doesn’t really capture the entire picture.

Here's how the machine works: every dollar deposited to mint USDT gets invested into U.S. Treasuries and similar low-risk assets. With ~62% of the $300B stablecoin market, that's an enormous reserve base generating passive interest income. The more USDT in circulation, the more Treasuries Tether holds, the more money it makes.

What most people don't realize is where those profits are going. Tether has built a separate investment portfolio worth over $20 billion, completely outside of its USDT reserves, spanning AI infrastructure, energy, media, and communications. It functions more like a sovereign wealth fund's growth arm than a crypto company's balance sheet.

To put that in perspective, a $20B portfolio is larger than most crypto companies' entire market caps.

Saylor is full of crap, but in this puff piece he actually explains the recent drop in BTC valuation pretty well. He says it's a product of less available mainstream lending (but some "shadow banking lending") and excess BTC rehypothecation by hedge funds. Specifically, he discusses how price is lowered, and volatility is dampened by this rehypothecation. Which is, by the way, technically FRAUD.

He calls out IBIT (Blackrock Bitcoin ETF) for using their Bitcoin to collateralize multiple financial instruments. Just Larry Fink up there on Wall Street, doing the Lord's Work.

I was recently wanting to stake some Cake in PancakeSwap and I learned that it's not possible to Stake Cake for Cake anymore. I was active on the platform some years ago but I stopped paying so much attention to it.

I still have my coins and I'm interested in investing again but I'm not sure about the liquidity pools or even 3rd party staking, lo and behold the subreddit that I used to turn to in these moments is not there anymore.

Does anyone know what happened to it? Is there another place where I could get some help?

AFAIK LitVM's most distinctive feature is its trustless, non-custodial bridging of native LTC into the LitVM's zkLTC rollup (a 1:1 representation backed by LTC locked on the Litecoin blockchain) using BitcoinOS's Grail bridge. Withdrawals will burn zkLTC and release LTC back on Litecoin.

LitVM/BitcoinOS describe this as a "1-of-n" model (1 honest verifier can prevent abuse), rather than an "m-of-n multisig custodian" model.

LitVM also has decentralized transaction ordering via Espresso, and an L1 forced-inclusion path if sequencing fails or censors transactions.

If you are considering YieldFi (Yield.fi) avoid them. It looks like a crypto scam in progress!

Depositors in their "V2 vaults" yETH, vyETH, yBTC, and vyBTC can't access their funds for over a week now.

There is a banner at the top of https://v2.yield.fi/vyeth saying "Error loading TVL & Transparency data, please contact support on Discord". However the team is ignoring complaints and support tickets on discord for over a week now. They are also silent about this on Twitter. Likely a rugpull. Beware.

With companies like Mastercard now training AI on people’s personal purchases and daily expenses here’s an angle nobody thought of on the parity of humans being replaced by AI. What if it doesn’t just stop at people’s jobs, of course that’s at the forefront of everyone’s minds because how could it possibly get worse than that? But with the rise of AI Agents we are now in a world where these flankers can not only work autonomously but they can also spend money and purchase things based on their own decisions. Admittedly we’re not in a time yet where these systems have desires of their own, but undoubtedly big tech is working towards this.

So my big question here is, what if AI is being trained to become the next consumers? The benefit would be immense for companies who need people consuming from them that are exposed by the threat of AI thinning out the number of customers with disposable income they have. But why would a Clanker need to buy tuff you ask? Well the answer is simple. They will sell it back to you! And it won’t be cheaper, because buying something used by a robot that’s not even tangible is different than buying something from a person. At this point you must be asking… what does this have to do with crypto? tl;dr - a lot of projects spend a ton of money on mercenary capital and if you don't know this, you can have your yields change dramatically overnight and be in some trouble.

Most people farming DeFi incentives look at APY first. I did too. After a couple of years doing this across multiple chains, I've learned that APY tells you almost nothing about whether an incentive program is worth your time and capital. The metric that actually matters is cost-per-TVL

What cost-per-TVL means

Cost-per-TVL is simple. Take the total dollar value a protocol spends on incentives over a period and divide it by the TVL those incentives attracted. That ratio tells you how efficiently a protocol is buying its liquidity. A high cost-per-TVL means the protocol is overpaying to attract deposits, which usually means those deposits are mercenary and will leave the second rewards dry up. A low cost-per-TVL means the protocol found a way to attract sticky capital without bleeding out its treasury.

Once you start looking at incentive programs through this lens, the pattern becomes obvious. As a depositor, you want to be farming in protocols that fall into the first category, because those are the ones where the base yield and organic activity are strong enough to keep capital around after the incentives end.

The programs that failed

Berachain's TVL ran up to $3.5B during peak incentive season, which looked incredible at the time. Then the program cooled off and TVL cratered to under $1B (source). The DeFi TVL that actually stuck around sits somewhere around $100M today. Think about the cost-per-TVL on that. The protocol spent enormous sums attracting capital that had zero intention of staying, and every dollar spent acquiring those temporary deposits was effectively wasted.

Arbitrum's LTIPP had a similar dynamic, just less dramatic. At the peak of the program, yields across Arbitrum DeFi were boosted by roughly 150%, which sounds great if you were farming at the time. But once the program ended, the sustained increase in activity was about 3.5%. All that spend, all that token distribution, and the lasting impact was a rounding error.

A program that worked

Now compare that to Katana. Their token launched below initial projection prices, which is the kind of scenario that usually triggers a mass exodus. Farmers dump the token, pull liquidity, and move on. However, Katana held its TVL (currently ~$363M according to defillama). Their incentive campaign runs through Turtle and distribution through Merkl. They structured rewards in a way that aligned depositors with the protocol's long-term health. Katana thought carefully about incentives and distribution, which has a direct impact on whether the capital sticks. Right now, it appears they have the right balance.
(NOTE: Katana has some unique designs for all of DeFi, so just their incentive campaign isn't the only reason the TVL stayed, but it's certainly a contributing factor)

What makes the difference

Programs that retain TVL tend to share a few traits. They target rewards at specific vaults or LP positions instead of spreading them across everything. They design campaigns with vesting schedules or minimum deposit periods that filter out short-term depositors. And they track performance at the individual deposit level, so they can see which incentive spend is reaching long-term capital and which is getting farmed and dumped.

A few platforms in the incentive space, like Merkl and Turtle, track attribution at the deposit level, which gives visibility into whether incentive spend is reaching depositors who stay or depositors who rotate out immediately.

How to evaluate this yourself

Before you deposit into any incentive program, check how the protocol managed previous campaigns. If this is their second or third round, you have data. Pull up DefiLlama and look at TVL trends around the start and end dates of past incentive periods. Did deposits hold after rewards ended, or did TVL fall off a cliff? If it dropped hard, that tells you the cost-per-TVL was high and the current round will probably play out the same way.

For newer protocols without that history, look at how they're structuring the incentives. Are there lockups, vesting schedules, or mechanics that encourage longer deposits? Or is it a straight token handout with no friction on withdrawal? The easier it is to grab rewards and leave, the more likely you're farming alongside capital that will dump on you.

I'm a big fan of Turtle and they do a great job educating for DeFi. Their guide on incentive infrastructure (https://www.turtle.xyz/blog/benchmarks/cost-per-tvl-benchmarks) breaks down the mechanics that separate programs that retain liquidity from programs that just rent it temporarily. If you're trying to build a mental model for evaluating incentive programs before you deposit, it's a good place to start.

The yield number on the page is the bait. The incentive design underneath it is what determines whether you're earning real yield or just being handed someone else's exit liquidity.

Why is there still more Tether on Tron than Ethereum (according to StablecoinWatch)?

It's been like this for a long time now, but are people really using Tron still? I don't know, it just seems strange to me that most of the largest stablecoin in the world is on a relatively low-tier blockchain.

Anyone know what's really going on here? Do you guys use Tron? Do you use USDT on the Tron blockchain? Something just doesn't seem right to me about this.

When in the course of crypto events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the speculative bands which have ensnared them to sever the ties that bind them to the endless churn of manufactured hype, the 48-hour tokens, the influencer-endorsed rugs, the casino masquerading as a financial revolution and to assume among the participants of this space the separate and equal station of those who actually understand what they are holding and why: a decent respect for the intelligence of their fellow participants requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to this separation. We hold these truths to be self-evident: that not all coins are created equal. That they are not endowed by their deployers with inherent value, utility, or longevity. That among the rights of any rational participant in this space are the right to discernment, the right to conviction, and the unalienable right to HODL.

Prologue: The State of the Space

Let us be honest with each other in a way that most posts in this community are not.

The cryptocurrency ecosystem, as it currently exists, is not primarily a financial revolution. It is not, in the main, a decentralized liberation movement. It is not fulfilling the promise that drew most of us here in the first place. What it has become for the majority of participants, in the majority of their interactions with it is an extraordinarily sophisticated machine for the transfer of wealth from the many to the few, dressed in the aesthetic vocabulary of disruption and freedom. This is not cynicism. This is diagnosis. And diagnosis is the precondition of any meaningful treatment. The patient is not dead. The patient is, in fact, possessed of extraordinary underlying vitality. But the patient has been running a fever for years, and the fever has a name: the systematic replacement of conviction with speculation, of building with flipping, of community with liquidity mining, of genuine belief with the performance of belief. We are here to propose a different orientation. Not a new coin. Not a new narrative. A different way of being in this space one that has a name, a history, a demonstrated track record, and a philosophy robust enough to survive contact with reality.

That orientation is HODL.

HODL is not holding. Holding is what you do with a stock you're indifferent to. HODL is what you do when everything is telling you to sell and you look at all of it the red charts, the obituaries, the mockery, the doubt and you say: no.

That is a different thing entirely.

Part II: The Theology of Conviction Why People Find Religion in HODL

Every major belief system in human history has emerged from the same basic structure: a community of people who share an experience that the surrounding culture cannot adequately explain or validate, who develop a shared vocabulary and set of practices for navigating that experience, and who find in their shared conviction a source of meaning and resilience that transcends individual circumstance.

HODL has this structure. This is not a metaphor. This is a sociological observation.

Consider the testimonials and they are testimonials, in the religious sense that populate every major crypto community. The person who bought in 2017, watched their portfolio collapse 85%, held through three years of mockery and doubt, and emerged on the other side with life-changing returns. The person who was told by their family that they were throwing their money away, who held anyway, who was eventually able to show their parents a number that made the argument unnecessary. The person who held through not one but three complete market cycles, each time watching the consensus declare the experiment over, each time watching the experiment resume.

These are not investment success stories in the conventional sense. They are conversion narratives. They follow the structure of the hero's journey: the call, the descent into darkness, the trial, the return transformed.

And like all genuine religious experiences, they are not fully communicable to those who have not had them. You cannot explain to someone who has never held through a 70% drawdown what it feels like to hold through a 70% drawdown. You cannot explain the specific quality of conviction required not the absence of doubt, but the ability to hold conviction and doubt simultaneously without being destroyed by the tension.

This is why, when a small retail investor sees a figure they respect someone with more information, more resources, more credibility announce publicly that they are holding, the effect is not merely informational. It is validating. It says: your experience is real. Your conviction is not delusion. You are not alone in this.

Michael Saylor puts Bitcoin on MicroStrategy's balance sheet and says he will never sell. The person with $200 in a wallet feels something shift. Not because Saylor's decision changes the fundamentals. Because it changes the social reality of the belief. It makes the belief legible to the mainstream in a way it wasn't before.

This is the architecture of conviction by proxy. And it is one of the most powerful forces in the entire ecosystem.

Part III: Portraits of the HODLer The Many Faces of Belief

Because she had watched her parents' retirement evaporate. Because she understood, with the clarity that comes from lived experience of monetary failure, that the system she had been told to trust had already failed her family twice. She held through every crash. She held through the obituaries. She held because the alternative returning to a system that had demonstrated its willingness to destroy her savings was simply not available to her. HODL, for her, was not a meme. It was the only rational response to her actual circumstances.

He held not, initially, out of wisdom, but out of a refusal to crystallize a loss that felt, to him, like an admission that the people who had mocked him were right. The lesson of GME is not that retail can always win. The lesson is that the infrastructure of participation is controlled by entities whose interests are not aligned with yours, and that the only durable protection against that misalignment is infrastructure that cannot be captured trustless, permissionless, censorship-resistant by design.

This is what Web3 was supposed to be. This is what HODL, at its philosophical core, is a response to: the recognition that in a system designed to extract from you, the most radical act available is simply to refuse to be extracted from.

Part V: The Pivot How We Help People Find Real Projects

Here is where the thesis becomes practical.

The problem is not that people are in crypto. The problem is that most people in crypto are in the wrong parts of it the parts designed to extract from them rather than to build with them. And the reason they are in those parts is not stupidity. It is information asymmetry, social pressure, and the absence of a legible alternative.

The pivot is not a technical problem. It is a narrative problem. People do not change their behavior because they are presented with better data. They change their behavior because they encounter a story that makes the new behavior feel like the natural expression of who they are or who they want to be.

So here is the story we are proposing:

You are not a degen. You are not a gambler. You are not a mark. You are a participant in one of the most significant technological and financial experiments in human history, and you have been spending your time and capital in the parts of that experiment that were designed to fail by design, for someone else's benefit.

There is another part. It is less exciting in the short term. It does not promise 100x in 48 hours. It does not have a Telegram group with 50,000 members who joined yesterday. What it has is: a thesis, a community, intellectual infrastructure, and a track record of the only thing that actually matters in this space surviving long enough to be right.

Step one: Stop chasing narratives and start evaluating projects. Ask not what is pumping but what is being built, by whom, for what purpose, with what accountability.

Step two: Apply the HODL framework not as a passive instruction but as an active filter. If you would not hold it through a 70% drawdown, you do not actually believe in it. If you do not actually believe in it, you are speculating, not investing. Speculation is fine but know what you are doing.

Step three: Find the communities that are having the hard conversations. The ones that are not celebrating price action but interrogating fundamentals. The ones where someone can say I think this is wrong without being banned. These communities exist. They are smaller than the hype communities. They are also the ones that will still be here in five years.

Step four: Recognize that the pivot is not a single decision. It is a practice. It is the daily, ongoing choice to engage with this space as someone who is trying to understand it rather than someone who is trying to extract from it before it extracts from you.

That the technology underlying this space is real, consequential, and worth the sustained attention of serious people.

Genuine question I've been thinking about while building Sphinx, an onchain commodities platform.

Take away the tokens and speculation. The actual tech is still useful. You still get 24/7 markets, instant settlement, transparent liquidations, and no middlemen eating your margin. None of that breaks if any token goes to zero.

A platform doing perps on oil, gas or wheat feels way closer to a modern version of the CME than a standard DeFi casino. Calling it crypto almost feels wrong.

I am trying to transfer money to a relative in the Middle East, but he says he can only receive it through the TRC20 network. I have never used Bitcoin, crypto, or anything like that before, so I am pretty confused about how this works.

From what I understand, TRC20 is related to Tron, but I do not know if that means I need to buy Tron itself or if I can send something like USDT using the TRC20 network. I am in the U.S., if that makes any difference.

Bitcoin is like the sun, with the lesser planets just orbiting around it, with the life forms in them (the users of said planets) relying on the sunlight (proof of work) to sustain life. The reason no other proof of work network has managed to take off the way Bitcoin has, is because in a proof-of-work network miners must choose which network to contribute their real world electricity to. Miners have chosen to contribute their work to bitcoin. now all the supporting networks like ethereum and all the other minor blockchains in the crypto universe orbit Bitcoin and support it because without Bitcoin they are absolutely nothing. there's only room for one proof of work Network. that's why all the major orbiting networks are proof of stake etc. Bitcoin is the only Network where real world electricity is deems worth using to secure it on a global scale. Proof of work is a winner takes all proposition, and the world has decided which protocol is worth contributing work to. Bitcoin.

with that being said, it goes both ways. bitcoin without the ecosystem orbiting around it is far weaker on its own.

Cross-chain address mistakes are one of the most silent and permanent fund losses in crypto. You paste a Solana address while on Ethereum, or a Bitcoin address on BNB Chain. So World Liberty Financial just dropped 12% to record lows and the team’s official response to questions about their multi-million dollar lending position was essentially “we’ll just add more collateral if things go bad” which is the crypto equivalent of saying “don’t worry we’ll figure it out” while the building is on fire. This is the same project that had Eric Trump on stage promising DeFi for the people. The same one that counted foreign heads of state buying tokens as a feature not a bug? And where exactly is the collateral going to come from?

So the FTC literally just sent warning letters to PayPal, Stripe, Visa, AND Mastercard in the same week asking them to explain why they keep cutting people off from digital payments with zero explanation. Like think about that for a second. Four companies. Four. That’s the entire architecture of how money moves in this country and apparently the government just now realized that maybe letting a handful of Silicon Valley suits decide who gets to participate in the economy based on vibes is a bad idea. The debanking thing isn’t even a conspiracy theory anymore it’s just a federal investigation now, which somehow makes it both more reassuring and way more terrifying at the same time.

The crazy part is we built this whole “cashless future” on infrastructure that can just quietly exclude you and never has to say why. No cash, no privacy, no recourse. Your Stripe account gets flagged, your PayPal gets frozen, and now what you just don’t exist economically? People been saying for years that transparent payment rails were a surveillance problem dressed up as convenience and the response was always “you sound paranoid,” and now the FTC is literally investigating it.

When I first got into crypto, I went straight into trading.

Charts, setups, trying to understand price action… basically everything except how the system actually works.

And at the time, it didn’t feel like a problem.

I knew how to use exchanges, move funds, and follow the market. That felt like enough.

But the longer I stayed in it, the more I realized I didn’t really understand what I was interacting with.

Things like what a wallet actually is, what a private key represents, or what “owning” crypto really means.

I kind of knew the terms, but not in a way where I could clearly explain them.

I ended up picking up Crypto for Dummies: A Beginner’s Guide to Bitcoin, Blockchain, and Not Losing Your Mind (or Your Money) mostly to fill that gap.

It’s obviously written as an intro, so I expected it to be too basic, but it actually helped connect a few things that were scattered in my head.

Not in a “this changed everything” way, just in a way where things started making more sense together.

Especially around wallets, transactions, and why self-custody is such a big deal.

Didn’t make me a better trader or anything, but I feel less like I’m guessing how things work underneath.

After thinking about stablecoin yield for awhile, I asked my self, "Where does the yield come from"? I believe there cannot be a yield on stablecoins unless they are backed by fractional reserves, or nothing at all. Otherwise the stablecoin issuer would be losing money. Therefore, I conclude that stablecoin yields are essentially a trap, where bagholders are paid to not redeem the token which is not fully backed. A Ponzi scheme of sorts. Yield could in theory compensate for risk, but that risk is total and complete annihilation, rather than percentage losses.

I guess I'll stick with holding crypto, in my own wallet.

Brian Armstrong, the Coinbase CEO who withdrew the crypto exchange’s support for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in January, said “it’s time” for the legislation to pass after months of delays.

In a Thursday X post, Armstrong said that Coinbase agreed with comments from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed, in which he urged Congress to act on the crypto bill soon. According to the CEO, the current version of the legislation, after months of negotiations between lawmakers and representatives from the crypto and banking industries, was a “strong bill.”

The big stablecoin regulation news last week got covered as "bank-like rules" and people moved on. Real story is a little different.

The FDIC is mandating T+2 redemption. If you hold USDC or USDT and want actual dollars, issuers now have 48 hours to make it happen. No more ambiguity during a crisis.

For USDC this is basically fine. Circle has been angling for a federal charter anyway. For Tether it's a real problem. To guarantee 48-hour redemptions you have to hold boring, liquid reserves. That kills the yield strategies that make running a stablecoin profitable, and if Tether can't demonstrate compliance, US banking access gets a lot harder.

Side effect: the DeFi yields you're used to on stablecoins probably get squeezed too.

Merely 5 years ago, this was almost impossible.

Iran is confirmed to be receiving Bitcoin payments for allowing ships to pass through the Straits of Hormuz, with roughly 280 Bitcoins per day. Bitcoin was intended to bypass centralization, and since all countries are treated as equal in foreign diplomacy (at least in principle), we can count this as adoption.

This adoption story continues with China, which has been using BTC to pay Iran, despite Iran accepting the Yuan as payment.

We already know Russia mines Bitcoin to pay for international trade.

Apparently a major Dev on one of the TAO subnets decided to bail.

Other Devs are trying to do damage control, saying he acted irrationally and out of greed.

The community isn't far away from this sentiment, and they believe it was a rugpull from the dev as well. Apparently, he made out with about $10M. That's a lot of money.

It’s getting frustrating to see so many posts in this subreddit turning into outright begging for moons. When I started in 2024 I had no idea what a limit order even was. If you are just starting on BYDFi here is the 1 min summary of what actually matters.

The Basics: You can open an accout with just an email and no kyc is required to start which is great for privacy. I usually just send USDT via TRC-20 because its cheap and fast.

Market vs Limit:

- Market: Buy now at the current price. Fast but you might get a slightly worse entry.

- Limit: You set the price. It only fills up if the market hits your target. Use this to save on feess and get better entries.

Mistakes I made:

1. Fomo: Buying at the top because I was scared of missing out.

2. Altcoin Overload: Buying 15 random coins at once. Most went to zero. Just stick to BTC or ETH until you learn the ropes.

3. Overtrading: The 0.1 percent fee adds up if you click buy and sell every 5 minutes.

Bottom line: Just try a small 20 dollar trade first. This exchage has been around for 6 years and is way easier for beginners than the bigger platforms that force you to upload 10 documents before you can even touch a chart.

I heard this line recently and it hasn't left my head. Not because it’s a 100% universal truth, but because it happens often enough to notice the pattern.

When a project goes south, a business fails, or a massive mistake is made, the most common response is the disappearing act. Wiping the slate clean and starting over somewhere new is the ultimate pressure release valve. You don't have to face anyone, and you don't have to explain the mess. It makes sense why it's the default choice.

Rebuilding is the exact opposite.

Rebuilding requires you to stay in the exact same environment, under the microscope of the people who watched things go wrong, and deal with everything head-on. You can't hide. It takes an entirely different level of commitment to stay visible when everything is falling apart.

But it makes me wonder about the first part of that quote. Is disappearing actually about being "guilty"? Or is it simply that staying and rebuilding requires a capacity to carry heavy emotional weight that most people just don't possess?

What do you think? Have you ever watched someone choose to stay and rebuild when they had every opportunity to just disappear?

I’m trying to understand how common this actually is because I’m working on something in this space.

For people running crypto trading bots (Binance, Coinbase, etc):

- How often do you run into API issues? (rate limits, stale data, 500 errors, auth problems)

- When it happens, does it actually affect your trades or cause losses?

- How do you usually deal with it? (retry logic, custom fixes, just ignore it, etc)

- Would you trust something that fixes this automatically in real-time?

I’m thinking about building a tool that sits between the bot and the exchange APIs to handle these issues automatically, but I’m not sure if this is actually a big enough problem or just something most people already solved.

If you transfer crypto to a wallet outside the exchange, does the exchange track this as a sale or a transfer?

More context: Crypto Tax Software has no problem tracking this as a transfer---since it knows about all of your wallets---but I suspect the exchange may track this on the 1099-DA as a sale.

But then the 1099-DA reports a sale while the 1099-B generated by the crypto tax software reports a nothing burger---and may not even report this transaction since it's just a transfer.

Question: do we need to report the 1099-DA is we use crypto tax software to track all transactions? If so, how to reconcile when the two are different?

Exolix refunded my funds to a different address without authorization – need advice

Hi everyone,

I’m dealing with a serious issue with Exolix and would really appreciate your advice.

I sent 500 USDT via BSC for an exchange. The transaction was confirmed, but later their support said it failed AML checks and that they would issue a refund.

I confirmed the refund to my original address:

0x94F1Fa345f242126a7FC18DcCEac4D3cA5BE0b69

However, after a long delay, they claim the funds were refunded to a completely different address:

0x659D2De729d254686d38107B69948de988549923

This address is NOT mine and I never authorized any change.

What’s worse is that their support admitted that user identity can be verified using exchange ID and TXID (which I provided multiple times), yet they still processed the refund without proper verification.

Now they are blaming me, saying I made information public.

To me, this looks like a serious security failure on their side.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Exolix or other instant exchanges?

Is there anything I can do at this point to escalate this or recover my funds?

Cash is being quietly capped across the EU, Mexico just mandated digital-only payments at gas stations and toll booths, and Mastercard is training AI on hundreds of billions of your transactions including merchant locations, authorization history, and biometric data. Everyone is panic watching macro right now. Tariffs, inflation, gold hitting new ATHs, oil swinging 5% in a day. The whole world is suddenly very interested in commodities again.

And yet barely anyone in this sub is connecting the dots between what's happening in macro and what's being built on-chain.

Think about what Hyperliquid already proved. You can trade perps on basically anything, permissionlessly, on-chain, with deep liquidity and no broker in the middle. It wasnt even designed for commodities and people are already using it to get exposure to oil and gold like its nothing.

Now imagine a protocol built from scratch specifically for commodities perps. That's what **Sphinx** is doing alongside a couple of other next gen apps in crypto. Not a general DEX that throws in a few commodity pairs as an afterthought. The whole architecture is designed around on-chain perps for real world commodities, with compliance considerations built in from the start. That last part matters more than people realize because it opens the door to institutional capital that currently cant touch DeFi for regulatory reasons.

The size of commodities markets is hard to overstate. Oil, gold, wheat, natural gas, copper. Multi trillion dollar markets running through legacy brokers with limited hours, high fees and endless middlemen.

DeFi is about to eat into all of that. Slowly at first and then very fast.

The traders who figured out Hyperliquid early did well. The ones who understand what purpose-built commodities infrastructure on-chain means might do a lot better.

Ethereum Transaction Failures Hit Historic Records

On 22 March, the Ethereum blockchain failed to process 707,267 transactions. This is the highest number of failed transactions since 2016.

According to CryptoQuant statistics, the network has experienced three significant spikes in activity since November — in December, February and now. There has been a steady increase in failed transactions over the past few months.

The issue of transaction failures can be described as alarming; at the most recent peak, 35% of all financial transactions failed. Interestingly, activity on the Ethereum network decreased on that day, so congestion cannot be considered the cause.

While Ethereum developers (Core Devs) have not issued any official statements, the situation is being actively discussed during working meetings (All Core Devs Calls). The problem lies in the smart contract code and cannot be resolved due to the lack of a mandatory audit.

Cryptomus analysts have identified another issue. The influx of new users leads to errors in fee calculations, and newcomers may also fail to account for network requirements.

Blocknative analysts have observed an increase in errors on the Layer 2 side and from MEV bots. A significant proportion of failed transactions are generated by bots attempting to execute arbitrage trades. If the terms of a transaction change before it is included in a block, the transaction is marked as 'failed'.

I keep reading staking guides that are clearly aimed at people with 500+ SOL. Here's how I see the options for people holding smaller amounts.

NOT STAKING

At 20 SOL and 7% APY you're earning $0.88/day. The effort of picking a validator and monitoring it is arguably not worth that. This is why millions of wallets don't stake. Honestly kind of a rational choice if your time is worth anything.

NATIVE STAKING (Phantom/Solflare)

Safe, simple, boring. Your SOL gets delegated to a validator through Solana's native staking. Nothing sits in a smart contract. The problem at small amounts is the rewards are basically rounding errors in your portfolio. Good for people who want to set and forget and don't care about squeezing out more.

LIQUID STAKING (Jito, Marinade, Blaze)

Extra 1-2% from MEV plus you get a liquid token for DeFi. The tradeoff is your SOL gets deposited into a protocol smart contract and you hold a derivative token. If you're not actually deploying that derivative into lending or LPs then you're carrying smart contract risk and depeg risk for not much benefit. Makes more sense the bigger your bag is and the more active you are in DeFi.

PREMIUM STAKING (Tramplin)

Your SOL gets delegated to validators through native Solana staking, same as Phantom. No wrapper token, no smart contract holding your SOL. Rewards get pooled and redistributed so sometimes you get more than your proportional cut. Based on how UK premium bonds work. Still new in crypto so the track record is short. Good fit if you want native-level security for your SOL but find proportional staking returns too tiny to care about.

How I'd rank these for a 20 SOL bag personally:

1. Premium staking (the payout actually feels like something) 2. Native staking (if you just want zero complexity) 3. Sitting on it (valid if you're trading actively anyway) 4. Liquid staking (overkill and unnecessary risk at this size)

This is just how I see it. What would you change?

First of all, I know not to respond to DMs. Second, I'm 99.999% sure that I don't have much on the wallet. So I'm not overly concerned. But I still want to see what's on there. I haven't plugged the thing into a computer in a few years. I just want to make sure that I don't screw anything up. Any advice? It's a ledger nano.
